Modern production
The swisscann tec production is a new building with an area of 1100 m2. The production was put into operation in 2022 and is located near the Zurich airport. The cultivation and processing of cannabis plants take place in enclosed clean rooms according to standardized operating procedures. Our cultivation rooms are equipped with modern aeroponic and hydroponic growing systems and use state-of-the-art computerized technology to control and monitor cultivation parameters, such as temperature, humidity, irrigation and nutrients, and lighting. We focus on the integration of all stages of cultivation in our production. We plan to expand our production in 2023/24 by adding another area of 2000 m2.
Key elements of our production
Clean room
All cultivation and production processes at swisscann tec take place in a controlled clean room environment. This means that the rooms are hermetically sealed and the incoming air is filtered. We maintain these conditions throughout the entire manufacturing process. In this way, we can ensure that there is no contamination during the entire production process and that the cannabis products are protected. This is the only way to ensure that the required legal standards for the production of medicinal cannabis are met.
Controlled environmental conditions
We use modern technology to control and monitor the environmental conditions in our growing and processing rooms. The environmental conditions such as temperature, humidity, irrigation and nutrients, as well as lighting are automatically controlled and monitored 24 hours / day. The stable environmental conditions allow us to influence the composition of the cannabinoids and ensure consistent quality. In addition, through this automation, we can greatly reduce the workload of the human workforce, resulting in more efficient processes. In this way, we not only produce cannabis products of outstanding quality, but we can also offer product that is competitive in terms of cost.
Growing systems
swisscann tec has modern hydroponic as well as aeroponic cultivation systems. In hydroponic cultivation, the roots of the cannabis plant are in a medium where water and nutrients are constantly supplied. In the aeroponic system, the roots of the plant are not in any medium, but hang freely in the air. The roots are automatically sprayed with water and nutrients by spray nozzles. Both systems are controlled and monitored by software at swisscann tec. Certain plant genetics respond better to one or the other system. Depending on the genetics of the cannabis plant, we can use either the hydroponic or aeroponic system to achieve better results.
Data mining and analytics
Environmental conditions during growth affect the quality and composition of cannabinoids. Our production allows us to specify the environmental parameters to suit individual needs. By monitoring the environmental parameters, we collect an enormous amount of data, which we continuously evaluate and analyze. This provides the foundation to better understand the influence of environmental conditions on the composition of cannabinoids and thus optimize product quality. In the future, we will also be relying on AI in this regard by using artificial intelligence to evaluate the collected data in order to gain new insights.
Integrated production
swisscann tec is striving to achieve fully integrated production. This means that all production stages are integrated within its own production in order to be able to guarantee a high standard of quality throughout the entire production chain. swisscann tec has integrated most of the stages in its production and expects to complete the full integration of all production stages by 2024/25.
Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP)
The production of medicinal products must comply with the highest standards according to Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP). These standards are laid down, among others, in the Swiss Therapeutic Products Act and other EU regulations. GMP certification is associated with high costs and considerable time. swisscann tec is currently in the process of implementing GMP. The implementation is being assisted by leading consulting companies from the pharmaceutical industry.
